Ben Sidran refers to these encounters as 'directed conversations' rather than interviews because his personal topics of interest and special points of view were key in determining the directions of each meeting. The result of his method is this group of stimulating, personal, insightful and informative discussions, which not only reveal the personailty of each musician interviewed, but also detail the performance, technique, business, history and emotions of jazz itself.
