Due to past and current sociopolitical pressures and the apparently irresistible effects of modernization, Tibet's traditional culture is on the edge of extinction. The cuurent generation of Tibetan elders is the last to have any personal knowledge of Tibet's integral culture. Responding to this situation, photographer Brian Harris has combined images of Himalayan Buddhist culture with memoir-style accounts of Tibetan elders in India, Canada, and the US.
