Prayers for Night and Sleep

The 72 pastels in this book are based on old Jewish prayers, which are recited before sleeping. They are supplications for God's protection against dangers and demons that loom in the dark. During the night we are vulnerable, it's the time that the soul returns to God.

For this series artist Juke Hudig (1945) was inspired by the music and texts of the American composer David Lang. 'Night' mainly shows the fears, 'Sleep' brings peace and enlightenment. These new prayers are a kind of guide for universal hope for protection.
